Overview
Nether Green Infant School wanted to encourage more pupils to travel to school in an active, eco-friendly way. However, limited and outdated bike and scooter storage meant the school could not fully support the growing interest in cycling and scooting. Partnering with Doing R Bit, the school looked for a solution that would increase capacity, improve safety, and enhance the appearance of the school site.
The Solution
Doing R Bit installed a modern Bike Barn designed to safely house both bikes and scooters. The new structure offered durable, weather-resistant protection along with a clean, contemporary look that complemented the school environment. By significantly expanding available space, the installation made active travel more convenient and appealing for pupils and families.
The school shared their experience:
“Not only does it look amazing, with positive comments from the local community, but it has also increased the number of bikes and scooters we are able to house on site, and we have already seen an increase in the number of children now choosing to travel to school in an active way!”
Conclusion
By investing in enhanced active-travel infrastructure, Nether Green Infant School achieved a practical and visually appealing solution that supports healthier travel habits, reduces congestion, and strengthens the school’s commitment to sustainability and wellbeing. The project is encouraging more children to cycle and scoot to school- creating lasting benefits for both pupils and the community.
